Lower School Ensembles Visit NJ Symphony
On Friday, April 4, Lower School Band, Orchestra, and Chorus students traveled to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ for a N
ew Jersey Symphony Orchestra Link Up Concert: The Orchestra Rocks. This show is an interactive, curricular program from Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute for students in grades three through five. Ranney students prepared for this experience during music and ensemble classes using the given curriculum.
The orchestra introduced and demonstrated the instruments by families (String, Brass, Woodwind, Percussion). Repertoire for this concert included “Come to Play” by Thomas Cabaniss, “Go Big or Go Home” by Jessica Meyer, “La Follia” by Giuseppe Verdi, “Anvil Chorus” from Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi, “Dance of the Adolescents” from The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky, “O Fortuna” from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, “The Brightest of All Possible Futures” by Earl Maneein, “Drumlines” by Thomas Cabaniss, and “Johnny B. Goode” by Chuck Berry.
Thank you to Mrs. Geene, Mr. Propper, and Dr. Sobieski for organizing and preparing students for this valuable and unique experience, and thank you to Mrs. Khoury and Mrs. Buscema for chaperoning. The Lower School Performing Arts students represented Ranney School well and enjoyed sharing this musical performance with students from other schools!
