Rutgers University Professor Visits Ranney Bands

On Wednesday April 16, Dr. Julia Baumanis visited the Ranney Upper and Middle School Band members to serve as a clinician. Dr. Baumanis is on faculty at Rutgers University (Mason Gross School of the Arts), serving as Assistant Professor and Associate Director of Bands.

She is the first female instrumental conductor at Rutgers University in its 257 year history. Her duties include serving as the Conductor of the Rutgers Symphony Band, the Associate Director of the Marching Scarlet Knights, and the Director of Pep Bands, as well as teaching courses in instrumental conducting and music education.

Dr. Baumanis offered constructive criticism and encouragement to the Ranney Band students, giving them a glimpse into what it is like to be part of the band program at Rutgers University.

"It was so valuable to have Dr. Baumanis work with the Ranney School Band students," said Ranney School Band Director Mr. John Propper. "Her ability to push the students to the next level of musicianship inspired everyone involved."
