Introducing Mythili Lahiri As New Lower School Head

Following an extensive national search, Ranney School Head Dr. John Griffith announced the appointment of Mrs. Mythili Lahiri as the new Lower School Head, starting July 1, 2025.

“We feel so fortunate to have Mythili joining us,” said Dr. Griffith. “She has an incredibly impressive educational background and comes with glowing references from all who have had the opportunity to work with her.  The search committee and the community members who had the opportunity to meet her gave positive feedback on her curricular knowledge, ability to lead a talented faculty, and genuine care for the school’s commitment to knowing and valuing every child.  Her extensive experience in different administrative roles will be a big help to the Lower School as the momentum continues for our age 3 through fifth grade students and will also help to shape our future strategic plans.”

Most recently, Lahiri was at Chapin School in Princeton, an age 3 through Grade 8 school. She served as Assistant Head of School and division head for grades 1-8.  While there, she worked to unify the school experience, implemented curriculum enhancements, and worked to build community and connections. Her vision of laying a strong foundation in the Lower School to ensure success in Middle School is a focus she looks forward to continuing at Ranney. During her time at Chapin, she also developed and launched a faculty evaluation program, implemented a new Humanities curriculum in grades 6-8, managed the student discipline program, cultivated relationships with the parent community, and implemented student programming. In addition, she taught a leadership course, worked to revamp the activity period program, expanded the music and arts programs, and introduced a Character & Wellness program.

Before her role at Chapin School, Lahiri spent sixteen years at Rutgers Preparatory School. Beginning her career as a Lower School teacher, she spent 10 years in the classroom. That experience laid the groundwork for her dynamic approach to education. Later, as the Associate Director of the Innovation Center and Director of Global Education Programs, she developed engaging student programming, including Girls Exploring Technology conferences and various global education initiatives.

While at Rutgers Prep, she also served as a Class Advisor and in other administrative roles. She served on many conference and panel presentations, such as the UN Department of Public Information/NGO Briefing, presenting “Educational Technologies Available for Primary and Secondary Schools.”

For six years in the beginning of her career, Lahiri worked as a management consultant for Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) before deciding that her passion lay in working with children.

“My visit to Ranney left me with excitement,” said Lahiri. “I saw parents who love and support their child’s school, faculty who are committed to meeting the needs of their students in a tight-knit environment, and students who are happy and so proud of their school. My favorite part of the day was having lunch with fifth graders. Their energy was contagious, and I just can’t wait to be a part of all of it.”

Lahiri graduated from Barnard College with a Bachelor of Arts, before earning a Master’s Degree from Columbia University.
