Avi Rao '27 Places First in Declamation at Montville NJSDL Tournament

Competing in Varsity Declamation for his second year, Speech co-captain Avi Rao '27 earned first place in the category this past Saturday, January 19, at the New Jersey Speech and Debate League Tournament at Montville HS.

Outperforming some very stiff competition, Avi's delivery of A.J. Jacobs' 2019 TedTalk titled "My Journey To Thank All The People Responsible For My Morning Coffee" hit a cord with judges earning accolades like "authentic",  "graceful humor", and "excellent".

Avi will have the opportunity to compete in at least two more regularly scheduled tournaments, one at Ridge HS on January 25th and Freehold Township on February 1.

"Given his current trajectory, Avi likely will compete in additional competitions to win bids to the National Speech and Debate Association's national tournament in June," said advisor Ms. Leslie Patient. "We are so proud of you, Avi!"
