Lower School Students Excel at CJMEA Orchestra Festival
On Saturday, April 26, Lower School students participated in the Central Jersey Music Educators Association (CJMEA) Elementary Honors Orchestra Festival.
Claire Martin '32 and Evan Afriyie '33 on violin, Brielle Morgan '32 and Elodie Chiang '33 on viola, Sebastian Lopez '32 and Juliet Fornicola '33 on cello, and Sam Margolis '33 on bass all performed with the Blue Orchestra under the direction of Mrs. Melissa Clark.
They performed Playground Games by Cooper Ford and even had the opportunity to work with the composer himself, a New Jersey native. The program also included My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music, arranged by Lloyd Conley, and Fiddle Faddle Hoedown by Thom Sharp.
The turnout for this event was tremendous — 250 students from grades 4, 5, and 6, all representing string programs from across the Central New Jersey Region II.
"It was a long but fun day, and our Ranney musicians sounded amazing on stage at Piscataway High School," said Orchestra Director Dr. Dorota Sobieski. "It was wonderful to see the smiling faces of our students as they played alongside new friends, learned from many directors present at the event, and continued sharpening their skills and developing their musicianship. They did a fantastic job!"
