Q&A with Saeed Torres '25

What is the most memorable moment of the season?
The game-winning penalty against Noor-Ul-Iman in sudden death overtime to advance to the state tournament quarterfinals.

How would you describe your team’s personality?
We have a team-first mentality and are resilient. Due to injuries, many players had to play out of position and everyone stepped up selflessly to help the team.

What do you like best about playing for Ranney?
The environment is fun, my teammates, and the coaching staff.  The coaches are always there for us, no matter what or the game result, they are always there to give support and get after it the next day.

What were your expectations heading into this season?
Individually, I wanted to beat my personal best record of 10 goals last year. (This year Saeed had 27 goals.)  For team goals- we wanted to have a longer state run than last year, and wanted to advance to the Shore Conference Tournament.  We accomplished all of these goals so I am very proud of our team this season.

How has your experience been at Ranney playing for Coach Donny Gray and coach Joe Murphy?
I have played for them for two years. Coach Gray is always there to help with technique to help with finishing, and always finds the solution to my technical and tactical problems.  Coach Murphy is always there to help with set piece ideas on corner kicks and our long throw-ins.  I scored a lot of goals this year off of our set pieces.

You are the first-ever Ranney soccer player to be chosen for the prestigious Monmouth vs. Ocean County All-Star Game. Are you looking forward to it?
I’m looking forward to representing Ranney; it will be a very high-level game. (Saeed scored the first goal of the All Star game in the first half.)

What are your goals for after graduation?
I want to study civil engineering and play college soccer.

What are your hopes for the Ranney team moving forward?
I hope that they can advance and win states!  There are a lot of talented freshmen and returning players, including my brother Juan.

What is the best memory playing soccer with your brother Juan?
The game vs Wilberforce, Ranney won 6-0 to advance to the sectional semifinal. I scored three goals and assisted on Juan’s goal in that game. I was excited for him to score and our whole family was there watching, that was a special moment for us.
