Senior Olivia Smith Signs with Bucknell Rowing
Coaches, advisors, teammates, and family members joined senior Olivia Smith of Manasquan as she signed papers to join Bucknell University’s Division I Rowing Team. Olivia will begin training at the Pennsylvania school, where she hopes to pursue studies in psychology, this August.
“It’s pretty satisfying,” said Olivia about completing her signing. “It’s like four years of hard work have paid off.” As a four-year member and women’s captain of Ranney’s Crew Team, Olivia said that it’s sometimes difficult to be a student athlete. “You have to keep up with your academic work and still give 100% to your team each day,” but she advises younger students to “keep pushing forward.”
An active participant in community service on and off campus, Olivia says Ranney helped to shape who she is today. “Ranney gave me the drive to take my academics and sports interests further.”
Olivia’s grandparents, Dick and Jeri Nolan, joined her for the signing as did her Ranney rowing mates Kyle Lubin and Grant Barthelmes, coaches Josh Prown and Erik Timkin, Upper School advisors, Christine Cicero and Andrea Velasquez, as well as Upper School Assistant Head Adam Materasso.
