At Ranney, every child is known and valued. This past semester, many athletes and students from various grade levels soared to new heights. While we recognize the hard work and talent of all students at Ranney, a number have recently shared their notable highlights with us, and we congratulate them on these outstanding achievements:
Craig Slater ’12 (Tinton Falls)
This spring proved yet another eventful season for one of Ranney’s most talented rowers, Craig Slater ’12.
In his first of many accomplishments seen this year,
Craig rowed the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association’s (P.R.S.A.)
4th Manny Flick / Horvat Series on April 10, 2011, where he earned first place against 11 competitors in the boys’ varsity race, and finished with a time of 6:00.69.
For the second year in a row,
Craig also competed in the 2011 Garden State Scholastic Championships on April 30th. Open to New Jersey schools, the Garden State Regatta serves as both a State Championship and qualifier for the National Scholastic Rowing Association of America (
SRAA) Regatta. After winning the Senior 1x for Ranney,
Craig once again qualified for the SRAA Regatta from May 27th-28th. While he took fifth place at last year’s event,
Craig was determined to bring Ranney its first national rowing title at this year’s regatta in Camden, New Jersey.
In third place with 250 meters to go before the finish line, Craig rowed faster. As thousands of spectators on the waterside and in the grandstands roared with excitement, he managed to pass his top-seeded competitor by one boat length to earn a silver medal. Ranney’s first-ever National title, Craig’s second place finish marked a milestone in the history of Ranney’s crew program.
Due to his success this season, Craig was also one of approximately 36 rowers and six coxswains invited to attend the USRowing Junior Men’s National Team Sweep Selection Camp beginning June 14th in Kent, Connecticut. With help from five highly respected crew coaches, the goal of Sweep Selection Camp is to find the best 18 oarsmen and two coxswains who will represent the United States at the Junior World Championships in Eton, Great Britain from August 4th until the 7th, 2011.

Alexandra Natsis ’15 (Little Silver)
Alexandra Natsis ’15, along with over 500 other children ages 13 to 18, attended the Greek Orthodox Youth of America Junior Olympics at Monmouth University over Memorial Day weekend. This versatile eighth grade field hockey, lacrosse player, and swimmer also proved herself a conditioned runner as she received four gold medals for her team — St. George of Asbury Park — in four track events during the Olympics. These included: the junior girls’ 400 meter (67.62), the junior girls’ 100 meter (13.89), the 4x100 relay (57.22) and the 4x200 relay (2:08.16).

Roey J. Hadar ’13 (Fair Haven)
Ranney School’s Academic Team qualified for a 2011 National Academic Quiz Championship Tournament after competing in the BATE Tournament at Bloomfield High School earlier this spring. Ranney’s “Quiz Kids,” along with 200 other teams from across the country, traveled to Atlanta, Georgia over Memorial Day weekend to compete in the three-day NAQT-sponsored national championship. Although the Academic Team just missed qualifying for the playoffs, team member Roey J. Hadar ’13 ranked number two among all sophomores across the nation, and was named to the State of New Jersey’s First Team — the only underclassman in the state to make the squad. Roey also finished a top-scoring individual competitor at the BATE Tournament in March.
