Ranney Senior Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

Heather Flynn has been named a semifinalist in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Heather Flynn has been named a semifinalist in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program. She joins a distinguished cadre of academically talented high school seniors nationwide who excelled on the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifiying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.  As a semifinalist, Heather will be eligible next spring to compete for more than $36 million in National Merit Scholarships.

“We are extremely proud that a Ranney student has been chosen for this unique and prestigious honor. It is a testament to the exemplary academic skills of our students, as well as to the teachers who have prepared them so well,” said Head of School Dr. Lawrence S. Sykoff. Less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors qualify as semifinalists.

Heather, who has been a Ranney student since 9th grade, has amassed numerous honors and achievements since her arrival at Upper School. An AP Scholar with Distinction, she is a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society, among others. Outside of Ranney, she enjoys ballet and tap dancing and is a member of the senior dance company at the Spring Lake Community House.
