Science Competition Club Collect Medals at Science Olympiads

The Science Competition Club is in the midst of the Science Olympiad season.  Science Olympiad is a team competition that crosses multiple science and engineering disciplines.  Students work together in pairs and threes in events that test conceptual knowledge as well as lab and building skills. As a recent Forbes article states “participating in academic competitions, such as Science Olympiad,... offer opportunities to showcase knowledge and skills in competitive settings.”

On January 14, 10 members participated in one of NJ's three regional tournaments for Science Olympiad:  Reilly Moini ‘26; Julia Stobie ‘25; O'Hara Kane-Assatly ‘26; Cole Serrapica ‘25; Sophia Behar ‘25; Krishna Khetani ‘25; Annaelle Petit-Homme ‘27; Jack Pentony ‘25; Lucas Yanney ‘25; and Connoly Chavez ‘25.  At Camden County College, 22 schools competed in 12 different events, and Ranney placed 13th overall.

Individually, Cole and Julia placed 3rd in Bungee Drop; Krishna and Sophia earned 5th place medals in Astronomy, and Reilly and Julia placed 6th in Anatomy and Physiology.  "This is one of the best results for Ranney in recent years!" said Science Competition Club advisor Dr. Roxanne Spencer.

On Saturday, February 1, the club travelled to the Princeton University Invitational Science Olympiad, in which 57 teams from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia competed in the full slate of 23 events.

The team consisted of Reilly Moini ‘26; Julia Stobie ‘25; O'Hara Kane-Assatly ‘26; Cole Serrapica ‘25; Khushi Patel ‘25; Sophia Behar ‘25; Krishna Khetani ‘25; Ava Ansell ‘25; Ranveer Virdi ‘28; and Gwen Canzonier ‘26, with several students attending their first in-person competition. Against tough competition and more stringent targets, Cole and Julia earned medals by placing 6th in Bungee Drop.
