Two US Students Earn Awards at Jersey Shore Science Fair

Two Ranney Upper School students independently prepared for the Jersey Shore Science Fair on March 19, 2022, and earned category awards: 
  • First Place, Computer Science (Intermediate):  Riya Sikand '24 “Utilizing Convolutional Neural Networks to Recognize Brain Atrophy in MRIs of Patients at Risk of Developing Dementia”
  • Second Place, Medicine/Health (Intermediate):  Junran (Zanc) Zhao ‘24, “Restoring MHC-I molecules to potentiate immunotherapy in breast cancer”
They both moved on to compete in the Delaware Valley Regional Science Fair (DVRSF) on April 6, 2022.  Riya placed third in the Computer Science (Intermediate) category and Junran earned a Merck Science Achievement Award that honors excellent projects relating to drug discovery and human health.
